MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes Nominated for 2 Emmys

chris-hayes-up-deskAs many who work in television know: Ratings may determine whether a show lives or dies, but it doesn’t always indicate whether a show is good or bad. Take, for instance, MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes.

The 8 p.m. show routinely rates poorly in the competitive time slot, especially against Fox’s primetime powerhouse The O’Reilly Factor. And we’ve reported multiple times that the show is among those being considered for the chopping block as MSNBC looks to revamp its image.

But that doesn’t make it a necessarily bad show, as our decision to place it #7 of “The Top 10 Cable News Shows” last year indicated. Add to that the fact that the show has now been nominated for Emmy Awards.

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced its 36th Annual News and Documentary EmmyAward nominees Wednesday morning, and Hayes’ show snagged two of them in the “Outstanding News Discussion and Analysis” category.

“All In America: A New Frontier in Women’s Healthcare” and “Fifty Year War: The Changing Face of Poverty in America” were the two All In specials selected for nomination. With those, All In will compete against itself for the award, along with two separate CBS Face the Nation segments, and one ABC This Week discussion.
