MSNBC’s Ari Melber Opens His Show With a Blistering 18-Minute Takedown of Trump’s First Term
MSNBC host Ari Melber ran a blistering 18-minute monologue on Monday night to “remind” voters of former President Donald Trump’s first term in office, highlighting controversies and dissecting his first administration.
“Donald Trump is having a rough campaign closing,” Melber opened, before tackling what he called “the big question”: “What are people forgetting about Trump in office?”
From COVID-19 to Jan. 6, 2021, Melber meticulously dived into the Trump’s administration, laying bare the effects of his “failed coup” and the polarizing policies that ignited national discord.
Melber told viewers that the first Trump administration had resulted in ”economic collapse” and the “abortion bans around the nation,” arguing that Americans saw the erosion of civil liberties during Trump’s term.
He argued that Trump’s nostalgia-driven rhetoric has, somehow, resonated with a surprising number of Americans but began to dispute it.
“There are many accounts that suggest Trump is not only basically tied with [Kamala] Harris, but that he could end this election with more support than before,” Melber noted.
But Melber’s analysis didn’t stop at Trump’s record. He cast a critical eye on the media’s role in amplifying divisive narratives, suggesting that “a pretty good number of people” are indeed choosing to forget.
Trump’s approval ratings, Melber reminded viewers, “were not numbers suggesting the public approved of him or wanted him at the time, let alone again.”
In a swift historical run-through, Melber highlighted the president’s staff upheavals, alleged corruption, and the infamous claims that bleach could kill the coronavirus during the pandemic.
His analysis painted a picture not just of chaos but of a system ripe for manipulation. He concluded by suggesting that Trump’s current success hinges on the hope that voters “forget what I just mentioned.”
