MTP Panelist: John Lewis’ Comments Help Spread the Distrust That Russia Wants
A panelist on Meet the Press today said that John Lewis questioning Donald Trump‘s legitimacy only helps to spread the distrust that Russia wants to see occur.
Danielle Pletka, senior vice president for foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, praised John Lewis as a great American before saying his remarks aren’t helpful:
“What the Russians want is not so much Donald Trump. What the Russians want is for there to be question about the legitimacy of everything that happens in America… And so when Congressman Lewis says he doesn’t believe in the results of the American election, which I think we all can agree were legitimate, what he does is he sows that distrust that actually helps the Russians. And that’s a shame. I don’t think he means to help them any more than I think half the people who did meant to help them. But it does. And it’s not the way we should proceed.”
