Neil Young: Let’s Impeach Obama for Fracking
“Let’s impeach the president for fracking / And misleading our country into war” — Neil Young, apparently, if he were to update the lyrics to his 2006 anti-Bush anthem “Let’s Impeach the President.”
As we reported yesterday, the 68-year-old rock legend went on Howard Stern‘s radio show and tore into the American political system, lamenting how all politicians are “tainted” by corporate money — including Democrats, who are “supposed to be saviors.” He specifically scolded President Barack Obama for allowing energy companies to use hydraulic fracturing (colloquially known as “fracking”) techniques in the Gulf of Mexico.
Appearing on The Colbert Report later Tuesday evening, Young followed that up with a remark about impeaching Obama for such environmental policies.
“Last time you were here, you tried getting me to sing a song about impeaching the president who at the time was George W. Bush,” Colbert said. “You wanted to impeach him over getting us into the war in Iraq. Now that President Obama is getting us into a war in Iraq, are you up for impeaching him, too?”
Surprisingly, Young replied, “No.”
“Then you’re a double hypocrite?” Colbert asked.
“I think we should impeach him for fracking,” Young replied.
