Newt Gingrich Says Anti-Semitism Is ‘A Dominant Factor’ in the Democratic Party: ‘Deeply Opposed to the Survival Of Israel’

Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich claimed that the Democratic Party is “opposed to the survival of Israel” amid the country’s current war with Hamas.

Israel and Hamas have been engaged in a war for weeks after the militant group launched surprise attacks on Israeli towns and villages, capturing and killing civilians. Israel responded by cutting off water and power to Gaza and launching airstrikes at Hamas targets.

Gingrich told Larry Kudlow in a Thursday interview on Fox Business that the Democratic caucus has a “very large pro-terrorist” faction while other party lawmakers are afraid to be pro-Israel.

“It’s afraid to be pro-Israel. I was trying to see how many votes they get against any kind of aid package for Israel. And I think that just tells you how much the Democratic Party has decayed from the period where it was very pro-Israeli to a point where it has a very large pro-terrorist faction,” Gingrich said.

Kudlow then asked Gingrich for his thoughts about college students protesting against Israel in support of Palestine amid the current conflict. Gingrich claimed the protests prove anti-Semitism is a “dominant factor” in the party.

“On the left wing of the Democratic Party, anti-Semitism and the desire to destroy Israel is now a dominant real factor,” he claimed. “I think that people need to recognize that the left is deeply opposed to democracy. They’re deeply opposed to the survival of Israel. And I think that’s part of a general pattern on the left. And I think that you see this with these huge demonstrations, and it’s going to raise real questions.”

Gingrich then encouraged House lawmakers to take away the tax-exempt status of universities such as Harvard and Yale for allowing pro-Palestine protests.
