NYPD Commissioner at Ramos Memorial: ‘Assassinated’ Because of What He Stood For
NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton spoke this morning at the memorial of Officer Rafael Ramos and said quite plainly that Ramos was “assassinated” because of what he represented and stood for.
Bratton talked about the pain of having to attend so many police memorials and funerals over the years, and how every time he attends one, “I silently hope ‘Never again.'” He let the Ramos family know that they will always have the NYPD watching out for them.
But the commissioner did talk briefly about the savage act that took Ramos’ life, saying, “Your dad was assassinated because he represented something.” That something being the NYPD, and Bratton spoke of all sides in the fight between cops and communities needing to “see each other” and find the humanity.
