Obama Speaks on Canada Shooting: ‘We Have to Remain Vigilant’

President Obama spoke this afternoon about the horrific shooting today in Canada. The president relayed that he’d spoken with Prime Minister Stephen Harper and expressed his condolences on behalf of the American people. One Canadian soldier lost his life after being shot.

Obama said the U.S. doesn’t have “all the information about what motivated the shooting” or whether this was just an isolated incident or part of some broader plan.

But either way, he continued, “it emphasizes the degree to which we have to remain vigilant when it comes to dealing with these kinds of acts of senseless violence or terrorism.”
