Olbermann Briefly Addresses His Impending Departure from ESPN on ESPN
Keith Olbermann briefly addressed the big news about his impending departure from ESPN on his ESPN show today. In case you haven’t heard, Olbermann and the sports network are parting ways (and not even for the first time).
Olbermann opened his show today by talking about the ethical concerns about one ESPN reporter tweeting out medical charts about a Giants player’s amputated finger and said that the critics are wrong; HIPAA doesn’t apply to news organizations.
He then went off on the “unyielding tidal ebb and flow of gossip, rumor, and people pretending that it’s okay to report something demonstrably not true simply because somebody told them it was true and they have mistaken the fact that somebody told it to them for quote truth unquote.”
And in case it was unclear what else he could have possibly been referring to, Olbermann said, “I speak to you as something of a sports news story myself just at the moment.”
Later on in the show, Olbermann spoke with comedian Jim Gaffigan, who made references to Olbermann’s former MSNBC colleagues before saying, “I’m taking over your show.”
Olbermann laughed and said, “Good luck with that.”
Gaffigan said he couldn’t imagine an election year without both Olbermann and Jon Stewart, and he asked Olbermann what’s next.
He said, “I’m going to become Donald Trump‘s campaign manager.”
