On MSNBC, Kayleigh McEnany Invokes Matt Lauer to Defend Trump’s Rob Porter Comments

While she defended President Trump‘s record on women on MSNBC this morning, Kayleigh McEnany also invoked Matt Lauer to defend the President’s remarks on Rob Porter.

Why? Because, as she argued, Trump’s response to Porter was similar to how Lauer’s colleagues reacted to the allegations against him:

ALEX WITT: These are women that are saying, ‘My husband beat me and he works for you.’ And he does not bother to mention them, acknowledge them in any way in his public statement. There seems to be a tone-deafness to that.

MCENANY: I think his response was very much like the response of individuals when the Matt Lauer allegations came to light. We heard the Today Show hosts saying it’s hard to reconcile the person that came to work every day with the person that we’ve heard about through these allegations, very similar to the President’s response that it’s hard to reconcile a man who walked into the White House… with the man who allegedly committed these atrocities.

So she’s comparing Trump’s response to Rob Porter to how the Today Show first reacted to Lauer?

Well, since McEnany brought it up, when Savannah Guthrie first broke the news of Lauer’s firing and reacted to the complaint against him, in addition to talking about Lauer she also said she’s heartbroken “for the brave colleague who came forward to tell her story and any other women who have their own stories to tell.”

President Trump, as has been very clearly noted over the past day, didn’t say a word about the women speaking out against Porter, and according to one report, has questioned their credibility in private.

Guthrie also said the reckoning happening at workplaces as a result of this kind of behavior is “long overdue.”
