Oprah Winfrey Asks 50 Cent Why He Named His Dog ‘Oprah’ In The Most Uncomfortable Interview Ever
For a while now, a number of rappers have had problems with Oprah Winfrey. They feel that she has an anti-hip hop bias, with her frequent complaints about the music genre’s use of the word “n***er” as well as seemingly misogynistic lyrics. Rapper 50 Cent came up with a great way to get back at her. He bought a female dog (think about it…) and named it “Oprah.” Pretty cool, huh? Well, what happens, though, when he then goes on Winfrey’s OWN show to do a one on one interview? Only the most uncomfortable few minutes of TV you’ll ever see.
Eventually, during the special that aired last night, the two made up. But, before that, Winfrey made a point of asking about the dog. 50 Cent chuckled nervously. So she asked again. And again. And again.
The rapper did his best to give the nicest explanation he could give:
“At the time, I was just looking at the situation and I was developing negative feelings for someone who doesn’t even know me. And then I gave [the name] to the dog because I was excited about the dog.”
Instead of letting it go, Oprah kept pressing. All the while just smiling at him. I was half expecting her to wrap up the interview by saying she wasn’t angry at the guy, just disappointed. Watching it made me feel like I was being scolded.
Yikes.
