O’Reilly Confronts Professor Who Criticized Him Over Killing Jesus Book

Notre Dame theology professor Candida Moss wrote a column for The Daily Beast criticizing the message of Bill O’Reilly‘s book Killing Jesus, claiming O’Reilly says Jesus died because of taxes while leaving out anything about Jesus’ message of social justice. Well, O’Reilly is never one for letting criticism just hang in the air, and brought Moss onto his show Wednesday night to tell her the entire premise of her piece is flat-out wrong.

O’Reilly began, “With all due respect, Jesus was not a socialist.” He proceeded to explain that the point of the book was to talk about history, not religious doctrine. Moss shot back that it’s a “historical fact” that Jesus told people they should give up their possessions to get into heaven.

O’Reilly shot back, “No, that’s no true. It’s absolutely false, it’s a misreading of the gospel.” He told Moss she’s a “loon” if she believes this, but Moss insisted, “Jesus is not a free-market capitalist.”

O’Reilly concluded that Jesus avoided politics, and it’s “bunk” to say otherwise.
