Out-Of-Work Actor Trashes David Letterman’s Historic Ed Sullivan Theater
In the ever-clever words of the New York Post, “there must be a better way to get your foot in the door at Late Show with David Letterman.” As the Post writes, a “boozed-up, down-on-his-luck Broadway actor wannabe” kicked in the glass doors of Letterman’s iconic Ed Sullivan Theater on Broadway Sunday, climbed inside and trashed the ornate lobby. “The inside looked like it was a drunken bar brawl,” a law-enforcement source told The Post.
According to the account, the suspect is 22-year-old James Whittemore, who started drinking around midnight Saturday and finished up his bender in the custody of New York’s Finest, who found him asleep on the sidewalk. He’s also caught on tape, which shows him urinating on the theater doors before kicking them in. Classy.
It’s unclear whether the incident will affect taping of tonight’s Late Show.
