Parkland Student Alex Wind: ‘If You Take Money From the NRA, You Have Chosen Death’
A number of Marjory Stoneman Douglas students made speeches at today’s March For Our Lives rally for gun reform. One of those students, Alex Wind, took particular aim at pro-gun politicians and the NRA, using some very strong words in the process.
“In the wake of the tragedy on February 14th, we as students, as youth, decided that if adults weren’t going to take action, we would,” Wind said, referencing the tragic Parkland shooting. “No gun-related legislation has been passed in this country since 2008. Ten years ago!”
Saying mass shootings need to stop, Wind criticized those proposing the solution would be to arm teachers.
“If teachers start packing heat, are they going to arm our pastors, ministers, and rabbis?!” Wind exclaimed. “Will they arm the guy selling tickets at the movie theater? This is what the national rifle association wants. And we will not stand for it.”
Towards the end of his speech, Wind said that what this all comes down to is “life and death” before listing off those who “have chosen death.”
“To all the politicians out there, if you take money from the NRA, you have chosen death. If you have not expressed to your constituencies a public stance on this issue, you have chosen death. If you do not stand with us by saying we need to pass common-sense gun legislation, you have chosen death. And none of the millions of people marching in this country today will stop until they see those against us out of office. Because we choose life.”
