Barbara Walters And ‘Barbara Walters’ Welcome The View Back From Vacation

Oh The View, your particular blend of news, politics and whimsy was sorely missed over the last two weeks! The show’s return opened with Barbara Walters having a dressing room chat with “Barbara Walters,” or rather Saturday Night Live alum Rachel Dratch in the same outfit as Walters, complete with a matching blonde wig. The linchpin of Dratch’s impression was built on repeating everything Walters said to her in a breathy approximation of Original Recipe Barbara’s voice. Walters’s comic timing left something to be desired — she’s better at being sort of unintentionally intentionally funny, like when she’s holding forth on premature ejaculation. But her good humor was infectious, and it was a little funny/sad when she pretended not to know who Dratch was, trying “Cheri Oteri” and “Amy Poehler” as alternates.
