Reggie Love: Obama Took Break from Watching bin Laden Raid to Play Cards

President Obama’s “body man” Reggie Love revealed a surprising detail about the day Osama bin Laden was killed during a recent interview at UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs. Love, who left the White House at the end of 2011, described how Obama left the Situation Room at times during the day-long operation to play cards in the White House dining room.

Calling May 1, 2011, when the iconic photo below was taken, a “very long day,” Love said “most people were down in the Situation Room.” But Obama “was like, ‘I’m not, I’m not going to be down there, I can’t watch this entire thing.'” So he, along with White House photographer Pete Souza and staffer Marvin Nicholson joined the president for round of cards. “We must have played 15 hands-15 games of Spades,” Love said.
