Ron DeSantis Laughed at After Dodging Question on Trump Being a Good Role Model at CNN Debate
CNN aired a remarkably compelling Florida gubernatorial debate last night between Republican Rep. Ron DeSantis and Democratic Mayor of Tallahassee Andrew Gillum.
The hotly contested race to replace Republican Governor Rick Scott has been seen by many as a proxy battle over the presidency of Donald Trump as DeSantis has gone all in on praising the current administration, even airing a campaign ad that featured his reading The Art of the Deal to his child. His Democratic challenger Gillum has been critical of the current White House.
That dynamic was in full display in the segment excerpted above. Moderator Jake Tapper asked DeSantis if he felt that Trump was a “good role model” for American’s children. DeSantis referenced his pro-Trump campaign ad, then immediately pivoted from the “role model” angle to Trump’s moving the U.S. embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.
If you are confused by that non-sequitur, then you have something in common with Mayor Gillum, who asked Tapper to repeat the question.
When reminded that it was “is Trump a good role model” Gillum replied simply “no he is not.’ He then added “Donald Trump is weak. And he performs as all weak people do. They become bullies.”
