Scaramucci Says John McCain Was a Role Model: ‘When I Have Rough Moments, I Think About Him’
Former short-lived White House comms director and current Trump-insider Anthony Scaramucci had nothing but praise for the late Senator John McCain this morning when he appeared on MediaBuzz to discuss the news with Fox’s Howard Kurtz.
“President Trump and John McCain obviously had a very contentious relationship,” said Kurtz in an opening understatement. “But let’s put that aside on this day. McCain’s style, I was talking about a moment ago, working with Democrats, sometimes taking on Republicans including George W. Bush, having these shifting alliances — is that now a vestige of a bygone era because things are so brutally partisan, polarized?”
“I certainly hope not, Howie,” Scaramucci replied. “At the end of the day we have to come back to that.”
McCain’s bipartisan ways are the chief complaint of those who support President Trump and bashed John McCain. Scaramucci is saying that rather than hating the Senator for it, it should be an example to others. A sentiment shared by Tom Brokaw on Meet the Press this morning.
Hopefully as people are giving tributes to the Senator they’ll think about that, and they’ll think about ways of bridging the gaps now,” he said, “Because it really should be about what’s the right policy for the United States, it’s a right or wrong decision as opposed to left or right”
He also elaborated on McCain’s struggles as a POW.
“Last night I was looking at the detailed information of the Hanoi Hilton, to really understand the struggle, the 5 1/2 year struggle that John McCain had. I encourage people to look at that,” said Scaramucci. “Because in addition to so many other things he is a role model of perseverance at a time and trial when he didn’t know if he was going to get out alive, and he came out with an unbelievable sense of optimism and love of country, never disavowed the war or the mission.”
“This is a guy that I have to tell you, when I’ve had my rough moments in life, I think about him and what he struggled with,” he continued. “He’s a force of optimism and his life, which will be remembered forever in America, because he’s one of those types of senators, that Henry Clay-like figure, he will be somebody that we look to for years to come now.”
