Senate Chaplain’s Prayer Begs Help From The Almighty For Fiscal Cliff Negotations
It’s said that the mood in Washington can be discerned from the chaplain’s opening prayer on Capitol Hill and this Sunday, it was far from cheery. “Let us feel your presence today,” said Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black. “Look with favor on our nation and save us from self-inflicted wounds.”
Black asked that Congress be given “wisdom” and the “courage” to do the right thing.
Lawmakers were at work Sunday for a crunch-time session to try and find a compromise on the fiscal cliff negotiations. Was Chaplain Black’s prayer an indication that a deal isn’t likely? Maybe, but it might have just been an acknowledgement that sometimes, Washington doesn’t know what’s best for Washington.
The deadline to reach a deal on the cliff is just a day away. After December 31st, automatic tax hikes for all Americans will take hold and Congress will be forced to act.
