Seth Meyers Reinvents the Late Night Monologue by Sitting Down
Last night, without providing any explanation, Seth Meyers delivered his Late Night monologue seated behind his desk with photos of the stories he was joking about appearing on the screen above his right shoulder. The whole thing looked an awful lot like his old gig as Weekend Update anchor on Saturday Night Live.
Was this a one-time thing? Did Meyers have some sort of secret leg injury to rival Jimmy Fallon’s messed-up finger? According to Deadline, the new setup is here to stay.
“That seems to be the plan for now,” Meyers said of his decision to stay seated for the nightly monologue. “We always planned to use the last two weeks of the summer to try out new things and last night felt good so we’ll stick with it.”
“It’s not really breaking new ground for me personally, so that made the transition easier,” Meyers added, referring to his previous desk job. He said he wasn’t sure if the move was going to be “permanent” so didn’t want to make a “big announcement” about it on air, though he did warn the live audience that something different was about to happen.
We can only hope that viewers at home were not to shocked and/or confused by the change.
