Sharyl Attkisson to CNN: Facts Show I Don’t Only Target Democrats
Former CBS News investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson hit back at her critics Saturday afternoon, telling CNN’s Michael Smerconish that despite claims she is a “conservative shill,” her career shows a record of going after both Democrats and Republicans.
“You describe yourself as being politically agnostic,” Smerconish noted from Attkisson’s new book, Stonewalled. “Critics say, yes, but all of her big hits are taking down Democrats: Hillary, with regard to gunfire in Bosnia, Fast and Furious, now Benghazi.”
Attkisson’s response:
Well, the factual record shows otherwise. The Emmy Award I won last year involved an undercover investigation I did on the hypocrisy of Republican freshmen fundraising as we caught them in Key Largo hobnobbing with the sorts of donors that they implied they wouldn’t really want to be hobnobbing with.
Prior to that, I won and Emmy Award investigating the Bush administration’s bait and switch on TARP, the bank bailout. I’ve probably done an equal number of stories examining Democrats and Republicans regarding shenanigans in Congress. And lastly, I like to talk about the praise I got from MSNBC at the time for investigating Republican Congressman Stephen Buyer’s suspicious charity after which he resigned from office.
So the factual record is different from the narrative that some are trying to advance today.
