SNL’s Game of Thrones Author Admits He’s Running Out of Ideas

Game of Thrones is back tomorrow, and “George R.R. Martin” stopped by SNL tonight to explain exactly what’s taking him so damn long with the next book. For one thing, he has no idea what to call the next book. For another, he’s running out of ideas and is resorting to basing entire settings and characters on sitcoms he happens to be watching.

Martin explained he spends most of his time writing Game of Thrones fan fiction, which is just like the show except “slightly less pornographic and I’m the main character in it.”

And if you’re hoping for some specific explanations for what’s happening in the next book, look elsewhere, because the characteristically cagey Martin said, “Everyone you’ve grown to love dies, and something very big is coming.” Something cold. And chilly. And… yeah, it’s winter.
