Tea Party Rep. Shuts Door in Reporter’s Face over Spending Questions
Tea party Representative Paul Broun (R-GA), who made his name in part on an effort to rein in government spending, shut the door on the face of WSB-TV reporter Justin Gray as he tried to question the congressman over allegations that he paid over $33,000 of taxpayer money to a campaign consultant.
The money was allegedly paid to Brett O’Donnell, a former Michelle Bachmann aide. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, O’Donnell has served as debate coach to Mitt Romney and George W. Bush.
Broun’s office declined several requests for comment. Gray attempted to track him down at a committee hearing (which he skipped) and finally ambushed Broun after a vote, at which point he shut the door on the reporter. His office later responded that O’Donnell was a paid contributor to Broun’s staff.
Broun is best known for saying that evolution was a lie “straight from the pit of hell,” among other comments.
