‘They Care, Innocent Children Have Been Lost’: Biden Defends Pro-Palestinian Protestor Who Interrupted His Speech
President Joe Biden was interrupted by a pro-Palestinian protestor on Tuesday while giving a speech about gun violence. As the crowd booed the protestor, Biden stood up for her and told the crowd that she made a “fair point” after yelling he was “complicit in genocide.”
Speaking at an annual conference in Washington, DC to prevent gun violence, Biden honored the victims of gun violence and their families. “I know what that feels [like]. That black hole when you receive that phone call, it seems like a black hole in your chest. You’re being sucked into it. Just showing up here and all the work you’ve done takes some courage because it reminds you of the moment you got that phone call….”
“It’s hard, but you’re making such a difference. The main reason I’m here to say, I mean, it in the bottom of my heart,” Biden continued as he was interrupted by a woman yelling, “You are complicit in genocide.”
As the protestor was booed and escorted out, Biden said from the podium, “No no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.”
The crowd began chanting, “Four more years! Four more years!”
Biden tried to quiet the crowd, saying, “Folks. Folks. It’s okay. They care. Innocent children have been lost. They make a fair point.”
“Come on now,” he said as the crowd cheered the protestor being escorted out.
“Thank you for honoring gun violence survivors,” shouted someone in the crowd.
Once the protestor was removed, Biden continued, “To all the leaders and advocates here today, I want to thank you for the dedication to this vital issue you’ve shown and all the survivors, veterans, families, moms have turned their pain into purpose.”
