Today Show Nabs Ray Rice’s First Interview Since Elevator Incident

Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice is finally breaking his silence after the revelation that he had knocked out his then-fiancee in a casino elevator: TMZ reports that Rice will sit down with NBC’s Today for an exclusive interview with Matt Lauer.

Rice’s arrest, which took place earlier this summer, turned into full-fledged controversy after the NFL gave Rice a two-game suspension, a punishment widely seen as insufficient. Over the summer, evidence emerged indicating that the NFL had attempted to downplay the incident, denying the existence of security footage of Rice knocking out Janay Rice, his current wife, with one punch. Rice and his wife have not spoken to the media since TMZ released the elevator footage, and it’s unclear whether Janay will participate in the interview.

According to TMZ, the interview will air sometime before Thanksgiving. We’ve reached out to NBC for comment and will update if and when we hear back.
