Tom Homan Claims Trump ‘Doesn’t Have a Limitation on His Authority’ To Fight Crime

Border czar Tom Homan claimed that there are no limits to President Donald Trump’s authority when it comes to ostensibly making the U.S. safe.

At a press conference on Monday, Trump invoked Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act and announced that he is taking control of the city’s Metropolitan Police Department. He is also deploying 800 National Guard members to the nation’s capital, where the president alleges that crime is rampant, though violent crime hit a 30-year low in 2024. Trump added that he is considering similar moves in other large cities run by Democrats.

On Wednesday, Homan spoke with reporters outside the White House, where he was asked if he would walk the streets of the nation’s capital at night.

“D.C. is a dangerous place,” Homan said. “I don’t go on the streets at night without a gun. And, you know, it’s dangerous. I mean, we see the crime in D.C., and you’ve got the Democrats saying that crime isn’t that bad. Come on. You walk through the streets of D.C. It’s not safe to walk the streets at night here.”

Homan added, “Our capital should be a showpiece. And President Trump, he’s gonna make sure not only is it safe, it’s a showpiece for the whole world. And that’s the right thing to do for the greatest nation on Earth.”

A reporter then asked Homan about a limitation in the D.C. Home Rule Act, which only allows the president to take control of the District for 30 days, unless Congress passes a resolution extending that timeframe.

“Do you think 30 days is enough for that?” she asked.

“We’ll see,” Homan replied. “President Trump doesn’t have a limitation on his authority to make this country safe again. There’s no limitation on that.”

Homan ended the presser, and no reporters attempted to follow up.
