Trump Ducks Cheeky ‘Les Misérables’ Question on Red Carpet
President Donald Trump’s red carpet return to Washington’s Kennedy Center turned awkward on Wednesday night after the president ducked a question about his favorite Les Misérables character, a musical he’s long claimed to love.
Outside the venue, one journalist asked Trump whether he identified more with Jean Valjean – the noble ex-convict who seeks redemption through acts of compassion – or Javert, the unrelenting police inspector obsessed with law and order in the pursuit of Valjean.
As some in the gaggle laughed, Trump deflected: “That’s a tough one. The last part of that question, that’s tough, I think.”
Turning to his wife he cracked: “You better answer that one, honey.”
“I don’t know,” he added. “I’ve seen it, we’ve seen it a number of times. It’s fantastic. I thought it was just about our first choice. That’s why we got, and we have others coming – other great ones are coming.”
