Unbearably Goofy: TV Reporter Flails Arms, Makes Bizarre Faces Re-Enacting Bear Attack
Oh, local news, you are so ridiculous.
What better way to demonstrate how hokey and goofy local news can be than to give “tips” on dealing with a bear via a reporter making silly faces and waving her arms around before a camera.
WJAR Providence reporter Julie Tremmel responded to a story about a local man’s bear showdown by giving viewers a few pointers, based on “expert” advice, on how to handle a big bear staring you down.
First, she suggests, do not make eye contact with the bear. So… in other words… do your best impression of a crazy, cracked-out paranoid person:
Next? Back up slowly. And then: Throw your hands in the air, and wave ’em like you just don’t care:

And then you need to remain silent. According to Tremmel, that apparently means shushing the bear while looking like the paranoid person from earlier on:
