WATCH: ‘Hamilton’ Cast Performance at the White House

The cast of the Broadway smash hit Hamilton performed the show’s opening number at the White House before a student workshop hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama Monday afternoon.

There’s some nice symmetry here, President Barack Obama noted in his introductory remarks, given that the show’s writer/composer/star Lin-Manuel Miranda gave one of the first public performances of any material from his then-nascent musical in 2009, when he performed the same number at the White House Poetry Slam before a recently inaugurated President Obama.

The show he added was “a favorite in the Obama household,” and that Hamilton “was the only thing that Dick Cheney and I agreed on.”
