WATCH: Shaq’s Phone Rings On Live TV, Derails Entire Segment Into Chaos
During TNT’s “Inside the NBA” on Tuesday evening, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal got a text message that derailed the entire segment and resulted in a good three minutes of chaotic television.
As Charles Barkley attempted to explain the strategy he believes Denver Nuggets coach George Karl should take in a first-round series against the Golden State Warriors, Shaq’s surprisingly non-Superman-related ringer went off. He somehow thought it judicious to toss the phone to an off-camera assistant, in the process loosening the microphone attached to his lapel.
You’d think the situation ends there, but once the production crew realized his mic was off, it became a high-maintenance situation, with non-stop interruptions of Barkley as he tried and tried (and failed and failed) to continue his talking points about Coach Karl.
It’s a nice little glimpse into how live TV can descend into chaos all because of something as simple as a text message to Shaq Fu himself.
