‘What’s Going On There?’ CNN Anchor Baffled By Dem Rep Accusing GOP Candidate of Being Solely Obsessed with ‘Hunting Wolves’

CNN’s Pamela Brown was thrown for a loop when Rep. Haley Stevens (D-MI) called out a Republican candidate backed by President Donald Trump for having an obsession with hunting wolves.

Stevens joined Brown on The Situation Room on Wednesday morning to discuss Tuesday night’s primaries, including in Wisconsin where she admitted the race was “very similar” to her own recent primary.

In Wisconsin, moderate David Crowley narrowly defeated Democratic socialist Francesca Hong in the Democratic gubernatorial primary race.

It was a much different result than Stevens’s contest, where she was viewed as the moderate Democrat, but she lost to progressive candidate Abdul El-Sayed, who will now be running for Senate.

Stevens was full of praise for Crowley and threw in some shots at Crowley’s midterms competition, Rep. Tom Tiffany (R-WI), whom Stevens served with in Congress.

She claimed that Tiffany has one obsession and interest that she’s seen: having the ability to “hunt wolves:”

Crowley, 40 years old, he is the Milwaukee executive, so holy smokes, he is so ready to go run a big state like Wisconsin. And this Tiffany that he’s running against, I served with him in the House and he is a nice guy, but he is kind of narrow, all right? And he’s deeply conservative and his big priority is wolves. He wants to hunt wolves. I’m not kidding. He’s talked to me about it many times on the House floor. Crowley, on the other hand, is an executive operator, and I think he’s, you know, moving and grooving to this governorship.

Stevens then declared, “This is cool stuff. It’s a good time to be a Democrat!”

Brown circled back to the “hunt wolves” comment, clearly baffled by it.

“Could I just follow up on the wolves thing. What…you said he wants to hunt wolves — are you saying he’s distracted by this priority or what’s the…what’s going on there?” she asked.

“It’s all he talks about! Pamela, I swear to you, it is all this man talks about!” Stevens said:

I have been to Wisconsin many times. You know, I did a bunch of business there, door knocking there. By the way, there’s some great small businesses in Milwaukee. I had one of the best hot chocolates in my life. They got this Blue Hour Coffee there… But I’m telling you, Tiffany is not connected to the small businesses and the needs of Wisconsinites. And you can get some other people on your show and who will tell you how. I mean, he’s just obsessed with changing the gun laws or the hunting laws to hunt wolves. It’s all he talks about.

Brown said Tiffany is welcome on her show anytime and she’ll be sure to ask about his “wolves” priorities.

Tiffany led legislation to remove the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act and to allow state-authorized hunting.

The congressman has lashed out at “activist judges,” claiming the gray wolf has continued being listed on the Endangered Species Act for political reasons, and it leaves livestock and even people at risk.

“Scientific data, coupled with the rise in wolf attacks in Wisconsin, confirms that the gray wolf population has exceeded recovery goals. Yet, activist judges continue to disregard these facts, leaving livestock, pets, wildlife, and communities vulnerable to further harm,” he said last year about his legislation. “The Pet and Livestock Protection Act will restore management to those who understand local needs best – state wildlife officials – and ensure that out-of-state judges can no longer dictate how Wisconsin manages its wolf population.”
