White House Spox Sidesteps When Tapper Asks If Pruitt Will ‘Have a Job at Midnight Tonight’
During a Fox News appearance today, White House spokesperson Hogan Gidley couldn’t directly answer when it came to embattled EPA chief Scott Pruitt’s job security, stating that he “can’t speak to the future” of Pruitt. This came on the heels of the EPA director’s disastrous interview with Fox’s Ed Henry.
A day later, and another avalanche of negative Pruitt stories, Gidley once again isn’t clear whether or not Pruitt will be around by the end of the day.
Appearing on CNN’s The Lead, Gidley was asked by host Jake Tapper if he knows whether the EPA chief will “have a job at midnight tonight,” with Tapper noting more negative stories are coming out and that Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly wanted Pruitt gone.
“I can say we all serve at the pleasure of the president,” Gidley said, adding that he wasn’t involved in any of the White House calls or meetings involving Pruitt. “As you guys know, and America knows, if the president is displeased, you’ll know it and know it in a hurry.”
Tapper then asked if Trump was listening to Kelly, pointing out that there are a number of people who say they like Pruitt because he’s been pushing for deregulation.
“He’s listening to results and, quite frankly, the economy is booming in part because of deregulation,” Gidley stated.
But, in the end, Gidley couldn’t really answer if Pruitt’s job was secure, and explained that he had no personnel announcements he could make.
