Who Needs Unity? Trump Tells ‘Nasty’ Former GOP Critics to ‘Come Back in Eight Years’

Screen-Shot-2016-05-04-at-1.35.54-PM-650x360Now that Donald Trump has effectively won the Republican Party’s nomination, many political and media figures are saying that his next best move is to follow through with his promise to unify the party and repair some of those bridges he burned. If today’s morning show interviews are of any indication however, that future unification might be some way off.

Trump appeared on Today this morning, where the conversation mostly revolved around his Indiana win and his non-apology for suggesting Ted Cruz‘s father was with Lee Harvey Oswald before the JFK assassination. The discussion eventually turned to his campaign’s future, where he said he thinks his old doubters should take a hike for the next decade or so.

“I am confident that I can unite much of [the party], some of it, I don’t want,” Trump said. “There were statements made about me that those people can go away and maybe come back in eight years… But honestly, there are some people I really don’t want. I don’t think it’s necessary.”

TPM noted how Trump expressed similar thoughts when he phoned in for Morning Joe and said that he’s been getting calls from former critics who want to back him after what happened last night.

“I almost don’t want their endorsement, Republicans, because it was too rough and they were too nasty, and I don’t think it’s going to matter, frankly.”
