‘Who the Hell Voted for… Big Balls?!’ Paul Begala Throws Down With GOP Strategist Over Musk’s DOGE
CNN’s Paul Begala blasted Elon Musk’s DOGE office and its staffers during a spirited debate on government waste with Republican strategist Brad Todd on Wednesday night.
Todd defended Musk and President Donald Trump’s efforts to root out and eliminate jobs, departments, and contracts to save taxpayers money. Begala agreed with cutting bureaucratic red tape in principle but challenged the way the White House had handled its approach to cost-cutting.
He also blasted young Musk staffers – one of who went by the online moniker “Big Balls” – while calling on Trump to use Congress to shrink the government.
On CNN’s The Source, anchor Kaitlan Collins asked Todd and Begala each to weigh in on Musk’s controversial access to and influence of federal government agencies and systems.
Todd criticized Democrats for complaining Trump had not ruled out ignoring lower court judges who have halted some of his personnel decisions. He noted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and other Democrats previously called on such rulings to be ignored over the issue of abortion.
“It’s just not true!” Begala fired back. “Democrats gave up the White House when the Supreme Court ruled against them in Bush versus Gore.”
Collins later asked Begala to weigh in on an executive order from Trump that gave Musk and DOGE the ability to force agencies to fire four people for every new job applicant they hire.
“Who the hell voted for Mr. Musk?” Begala said. “Who the hell voted for – excuse the phrase – a guy who calls himself Big Balls?! A 19-year-old kid going in there and trying to fire cancer researchers and scientists and teachers and agricultural specialists. It’s it’s appalling.”
The Washington Post reported Monday that Edward Coristine, a 19-year-old software engineer who goes by “Big Balls,” had been named a “senior adviser” at the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Technology.
