Wolf Blitzer: Was Ferguson ‘Not Supposed to Be Going On’ With a Black President?
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer asked Urban League President Marc Morial Wednesday afternoon if events like Ferguson are “not supposed to be going on” due to the fact that America has an African-American president, attorney general, and secretary of Homeland Security.
“Because as you know, for six years we’ve had an African-American president of the United States, we have an African-American attorney general, African-American secretary of Homeland Security — this was not supposed to be going on like this right now, was it?” Blitzer asked Morial.
Morial said Americans “continue to celebrate” those aspects of progress, but added there is still an element of racism in the opposition of some to President Obama and stubbornness to accept progress in race relations.
“I’ve been, in some ways, surprised at the intensity of the opposition and some of the dislike that people express towards President Obama. Some of it seemed to go beyond just simple politics and may tread into the tricky waters of race, and that certainly has to be said.”
Blitzer then asked Morial who is to blame for the high levels of unemployment for young African-Americans, to which Morial responded that the Stimulus Package from 2009 may have been too small.
