YouTube Employee Describes Running And ‘People Screaming’ in Active Shooting on CNN

Following reports of an active shooter at YouTube’s San Bruno, California headquarters, an employee described hearing “sounds of running and screaming” while at work Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking with CNN’s Jake Tapper, the unnamed female witness said her meeting with a colleague ended abruptly once they realized chaos was unfolding.

“I was actually on a video conference with someone who was in the building when it happened,” the unnamed witness said. “We were all suddenly aware of a lot of noises of people running outside of the room where she was and people screaming.

“And the person who was in the room on the video conference in the building became very alarmed and was listening to the sounds and suddenly became very scared and said, ‘I have to get out of here,’ at which point she abruptly left.”

The witness said she was in different building nearby at the time from where she called Google’s security officers who were already aware of the situation.

Aside from sounds of screams and people running, “it was hard to hear anything else if there was anything else at that time,” she said.

“In speaking later with her and others who had been there, they did manage to get out of the building and everything after that was a panic,” the witness said, referring to the colleague that had left the video conference. “It was, there was an active shooter is what they were saying. That someone was ‘down’ on the patio outside. That’s all that we’ve heard so far. Everybody is just trying to get away.”

The witness said the office complex contains four buildings, and that the area is staffed with security.

Details on the possible shooting are still emerging, but local police are telling people to stay away from the scene.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a police source said two people were wounded in the shooting.
