‘Holy Sh*t!’: Australian Air Force Plane Weaves Through Downtown For ‘Rehearsal’
On Thursday, a Boeing C-17 belonging to the Royal Australian Air Force weaved its way through Brisbane’s business district, making low passes close to various skyscrapers and other buildings.
And it was on purpose.
Brisbane’s annual Sunsuper Riverfire festival is on Sunday, and the plane was conducting a “rehearsal” ahead of aerial portion of the event.
In a video of the run posted to reddit, onlookers can be heard reacting in disbelief.
“Fucking shit!,” exclaimed one man, using Australia’s technical term for the plane’s maneuvering. “Shit! Fucking shit! Holy fuck! Holy shit!”
The RAAF has actually been doing this each year since 2017. Here’s footage from the 2019 test run:
One C-17 pilot for the U.S. Air Force told Task & Purpose that the stunt would never fly in the states.
“If the crew’s timing is off or if they are slow to react, the jet would collide with a building. Very risky,” said the pilot, speaking anonymously because he’s not authorized to speak to the media.
“Those Brisbane videos are insane,” said the pilot. “We could never do something like that in the USAF. If we did, we would lose our wings immediately — never fly again.”
