‘Lay Hands on Him!’ 6 Wildest Moments From Trump’s Now-Deleted Easter Event With Evangelicals
The White House deleted video footage of an hour-long Easter event featuring President Donald Trump and evangelical leaders engaging in praise and worship and— other things. Here are the 5 wildest moments.
Billed as an “Easter Lunch” with Evangelical leaders, the event was supposed to be closed to the press and the public. But when the event began, the White House launched a video stream of the entire event, which ran for an hour and four minutes and featured many memorable moments.
Trump Gets Compared to Jesus. Christ, That Is.
Trumps spiritual adviser and White House Faith Office senior adviser Pastor Paula White was among the speakers, and went viral with a rant in which she directly compared Trump to Jesus:
PASTOR PAULA WHITE: Mr. President, no one has paid the price like you have paid the price. It almost cost you your life. You were betrayed and arrested. And falsely accused.
It’s a familiar pattern that our Lord and Savior showed us. But it didn’t end there for Him, and it didn’t end there for you. God always had a plan.
On the third day, He rose, He defeated evil, He conquered death, hell, and the grave. And because He rose we all know that we can rise.
And sir, because of His resurrection you rose up.
Trump Compares Himself To Jesus In ‘No Kings’ Protest Riff
The president ad-libbed his way through a retelling of the Easter story that included a tangent about the “No Kings” protests:
On Palm Sunday, Jesus entered Jerusalem as crowds welcomed him with praise, honoring him as king.
They call me King now. Do you believe it? “No King.”.
I’m such a king, I can’t get a ballroom approved.
(LAUGHTER).
Pretty amazing, right? I’m a king. If I was a king, I would be doing a lot more. I’m doing a LOT, but I could be doing a lot MORE if I was the king.
Trump Curses During Remarks — Tells Erika Kirk to ‘Sue Their A** Off!’
The guest list included Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk, who has been the subject of conspiracy theories, as well as relentless mockery like the thinly-veiled viral parody video by comedian and influencer Druski:
As he greeted the attendees, Trump spotted Kirk and gave her some profane advice for dealing with critics:
Hello, darling! Wow, this is a good table. I like that table. You’re doing well, right? Okay.
I think you should sue them, but you know. I told her, you oughta sue some of these–. They’re so jealous of Erika.
I said, “You’re gonna sue their,” I can say it, you’re not allowed to say this. You have to be nicer.
Sue their a** off!
Trump Rips His Own Supreme Court Appointees: “Stupid People!”
The president lashed out to his Christian friends about the apparent hammering he took as he looked on at the hearing on birthright citizenship:
Republicans, judges, and justices, they always want to show that they’re independent. I don’t care if Trump appointed me. I don’t care if he doesn’t make any difference to me. I’m voting against him.
Because they want to show their independence. You know, stupid people.
‘Lay Hands on Him!’
Pastor White followed her Jesus comparison with a furtive prayer, during which she and the other leaders laid hands on Trump as she “declared” blessings onto the president:
God Saved Trump’s Life Twice AND Got Him Elected in 2024
Ralph Reed led a prayer in which he credited God with saving Trump’s life twice and winning the 2024 election for him — no mention of what He was doing in 2020:
There were many more moments than these — Trump insulted a raft of opponents, cracked wise about attendees like Vice President JD Vance, and dropped other characteristic asides.
