WATCH: Drug Smuggling Cat Nabbed by Prison Officials in Costa Rica
Prison guards in Costa Rica busted a furry four-legged drug smuggler with marijuana and crack taped to its body.
Video shared by the Costa Rican Ministry of Justice and Peace shows prison guards at the the Penitentiary Police of Pococí prison capturing a cat as it attempted to get into the prison over a perimeter fence at night earlier this month. The cat had more than 230 grams of marijuana and approximately 67 grams of crack cocaine taped to its body.
“This Tuesday night, agents of the Penitentiary Police of Pococí prison, managed to rescue a kitten that was carrying two packages of drug stuck to its body. The officer located in one of the forts, managed to visualize the animal in the green zone, so he immediately gave the alarm,” the ministry said in a statement.
The drugs were confiscated and the animal was given to the National Animal Health Service to be checked out. Officials had to carefully remove the large bag of drugs taped to the cat’s fur, as the released footage shows. In the ministry’s clip, a guard can be seen climbing the perimeter fence to retrieve the cat and then officials had to cut the two bags of drugs from the feline’s body.
Officials believe someone had the black-and-white cat attempting to move drugs to inmates inside the prison.
“Thanks to the quick actions (of the guards) the feline was caught and the packages were removed, thus preventing them from reaching their final destination,” the ministry said in their statement about the incident.
