Two airport employees are facing charges after authorities accused the pair of leaking the chilling surveillance footage of last week’s devastating midair collision in Washington DC, to CNN.
The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) confirmed Monday that two of its workers were arrested for allegedly making an unauthorized copy of the crash video. The footage—first aired by CNN last week—captured the moment an Army Black Hawk helicopter and an American Airlines passenger jet collided over the Potomac River, killing all 67 people on board.
Mohamed Lamine Mbengue was taken into custody Friday and later released before his colleague Jonathan Savoy was charged Sunday, according to the MWAA. Savoy was issued a summons and released.
Both men are facing charges of computer trespass in connection with the leak, though the agency did not reveal how they allegedly accessed the footage.
The video, obtained and shown on-air by CNN, provided a look at the moment of impact. The network reported that both clips were filmed on cell phones.
The news comes as officials continue Tuesday recovering the wreckage of the aircraft as federal investigators continue their probe.
