‘An Unprecedented Move!’ ABC’s Raddatz Presses GOP Congressman About Elon Musk’s Email Threat to Fed Workers and Firings at the Pentagon
ABC’s Martha Raddatz pressed a Republican congressman about Elon Musk’s email demand to federal workers to justify their jobs or potentially lose them.
In an interview on ABC’s This Week Sunday, Raddatz confronted Rep. Mike Lawler (R-NY) about the email — which Musk said would be considered a resignation if federal employees failed to respond.
“I want to know your reaction to Elon Musk basically sending out orders to federal workers to list their accomplishments by Monday night or be fired, basically,” Raddatz said.
The GOP congressman admitted, “I don’t know how that’s necessarily feasible. Obviously, a lot of federal employees are under union contract.”
Still, he defended the larger work of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) — an outfit which the White House said in a legal filing that Musk is not technically part of, but Trump, this week, said Musk is running.
“There’s no question, as the Department of Government Efficiency moves ahead, what they are seeking to do is ensure that every agency and department is effectively and efficiently doing their job,” Lawler said. “With a $7 trillion budget, there is no question that our government has become bloated and, in many respects, inefficient. And so the task at hand, obviously, for Elon Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency, at the direction of President Trump, is to find efficiencies and savings, and make sure that our federal workforce is doing their jobs and doing it effectively.”
Lawler added, “what we’re seeing right now [is] a comprehensive forensic audit of every department and agency in the federal government.”
Raddatz went on to challenge Lawler about the dismissal of senior officials at Pentagon — which she called “an unprecedented move.”
