BREAKING: Harvard President Resigns After Latest Plagiarism Allegations
Embattled Harvard University President Claudine Gay has resigned following additional charges of plagiarism.
She released the following statement Tuesday:
Gay was under investigation by Harvard University for alleged plagiarism that was first detected last fall.
Gay’s tenure was the shortest in Harvard’s history, according to The Crimson.
“Gay’s resignation — just six months and two days into the presidency — comes amid growing allegations of plagiarism and lasting doubts over her ability to respond to antisemitism on campus after her disastrous congressional testimony Dec. 5,” The Crimson reported.
Gay is expected to make a statement about the decision, according to reporters Emma H. Haidar and Cam E. Kettles. She has denied the plagiarism accusations and “corrected” the references in some papers.
Students questioned whether Harvard was promoting a double-standard when it came to plagiarism. Fox News reported that an undergraduate member of Harvard’s Honor Council said Gay was “getting off easy” by the University when it initially supported Gay.
This is a breaking story and has been updated.
