CNN Morning Crew Destroys Pro-Trump Panelist Trying To Dump On Trump ‘Fascist’ Label
CNN anchor Kasie Hunt and her entire panel pounced on former Trump spokesman Marc Lotter when he pushed back on former President Donald Trump being labeled a “fascist” by multiple former top aides.
In reporting that dropped Tuesday, former Trump Chief of Staff John Kelly is on tape recounting stunning conversations in which Trump said Nazi leader Adolf Hitler did “some good things” and wished his own generals were more like Hitler’s, and calling Trump a fascist.
Kelly appears to be part of a dambreak of Trump national security officials — former Joint Chiefs Chairman Mark Milley and ex-Trump Secretary of Defense Mark Esper among them — agreeing Trump is a fascist.
On Thursday morning’s edition of CNN This Morning, Lotter tried to dismiss the trend as equivalent to Republicans attacking Vice President Kamala Harris as a “socialist” — which Hunt and her panel hammered him over:
KASIE HUNT: So to be clear, Mark Esper does say that Donald Trump has fascist inclinations. Are you okay with that?
MARC LOTTER: And Kamala as a socialist? I mean, this is what we do in politics. And I mean, we’ve been calling the left socialist for — since the days of Reagan.
EDWARD-ISAAC DOVERE: — there, though, right? Because if people who worked for Donald Trump saying that he’s a fascist —
MARC LOTTER: There are and —
KASIE HUNT: Military leaders!
— there is a litany, let me and I’ve got 200 retired military generals and admirals who support Donald Trump.
EDWARD-ISAAC DOVERE: But socialist is something that Trump and Republicans have called Kamala Harris. Nobody who has worked for Kamala Harris calls her socialist.
People who are in Donald Trump’s cabinet, in his Oval Office, say he is a fascist.
They say he — the Kelly thing. You want to say he’s lying. I think a lot of people feel that John Kelly is not a liar. Said that Trump was saying he wishes he had generals who are more like Hitler’s generals. This isn’t just to wipe away. And I think that what —
MARC LOTTER: I get it, you want it to be something more because you have nothing more to run on —
EDWARD-ISAAC DOVERE: No, I’m a reporter, I’m not running on anything. I do think, though, that what is happening here is there are a lot of reasons to vote for or against Donald Trump, for or against Kamala Harris.
But what is definitely true is that if you are saying you’re voting for Donald Trump, you’re saying, I’ve heard all those comments about him being a fascist from people who work for him, and I don’t care about it enough to change my vote. Right?
MARC LOTTER: Well, what I’m saying is, is that like I was in the White House in 2017. I was on the campaign in ’16. I was on the campaign in ’20. I know of many people who were in the White House who don’t say those things —
(CROSSTALK)
KASIE HUNT: We appreciate your perspective on this. But John Kelly was the chief of staff, and he also has this incredibly distinguished —
MARC LOTTER: I’m not questioning General and General Kelly’s career and his service to our country and his loss, because obviously.
KASIE HUNT: Well, you’re questioning his integrity.
MARC LOTTER: You wait you wait until two weeks before an election. This is now —
KASIE HUNT: Because Donald Trump came out and said that the military possibly should be involved in dealing with American citizens on Election Day. I mean, that’s why John Kelly came out now.
