Fox Anchor Presses Israeli Official: Does Biden Still Have Your Back?
The United Nations voted in favor of a resolution for an unconditional ceasefire in Gaza after the United States abstained, a move that put the U.S. at odds with its long-time ally Israel. While discussing Israel’s developments in its war against Hamas, Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer asked an Israeli official if President Joe Biden still supported them.
During Tuesday’s edition of America’s Newsroom, Hemmer spoke with Ron Dermer, Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs and a former Israeli Ambassador to the United States. They touched on the UN resolution as well as comments by Vice President Kamala Harris saying that if Israel moved into Rafah, it would be a “mistake.” Hemmer asked Dermer, “What does that say to you?”
Dermer’s response: “Well, I understand that’s the position of the vice president and the U.S. administration when it comes to a major military operation in Rafah.” He continued to outline why Israel wanted to move into Rafah, saying: “We cannot afford to not go into Rafah and finish the job, because then what they’ll do is October 7th again and again and again.”
Hemmer interrupted Dermer as he spoke and asked:
Hemmer: President Biden has had your back, almost for his entire political career. Do you believe he still does today?
Dermer: I think in his heart he does, and I appreciate very much when this war started, he came out of the gate with a very clear statement that made a difference between right and wrong, good and evil. He called Hamas worse than ISIS. He said they were sheer evil. And Hamas hasn’t changed. And you can’t leave part of sheer evil in place. You got to finish the job. And I hope as we move forward to victory, that the United States will continue to stand by our side because, Bill, we have no choice. We are not going to allow this army of terrorism, this army of terror Hamas, to survive in Gaza. We’re going to take them out.
