Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) mocked Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for fretting over the prospect of Donald Trump retaking the White House after she supported a campaign to oppose incumbent President Joe Biden in her home state earlier this week.

“It’s really important for folks to understand: I am incredibly, incredibly scared of a second term for Trump. And I think it’s really important to emphasize this,” Tlaib told members of the press on Thursday.

Fetterman saw some irony between those sentiments and Tlaib’s support of the campaign to get Michigan Democratic voters to say they were “uncommitted” in the state’s primary on Tuesday, and expressed his apparent combination of bewilderment and frustration in meme format on X.

“I was proud today to walk in and pull a Democratic ballot and vote uncommitted. We must protect our democracy. We must make sure that our government is about us, about the people,” declared Tlaib in a video she taped in support of the campaign, which arose out of frustration with Biden’s support for Israel.

“When 74 percent of Democrats in Michigan support a cease-fire, yet President Biden is not hearing us, this is the way we can use our democracy to say ‘listen.’ Listen to Michigan,” she continued.

On Thursday, Tlaib urged voters to turn out to the polls for the general election this November, but refrained from endorsing Biden in the presidential race.

“One thing that I know about staying home is you’re making us more invisible. I want you to exercise your right to vote,” said Tlaib. “Everybody’s always driven by what’s on top of the ballot. Know that there’s so many other folks on that ballot, many of which support a cease-fire [in the Gaza Strip].”

This fall, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre repeatedly rebuked Tlaib for her statements about the war between Israel and Hamas, even calling her comments “repugnant” and “disgraceful” in one particularly notable instance.
