The House of Representatives has voted to establish a commission looking into the Capitol riots on January 6th, with the vast majority of Republicans voting against it.

The final vote was 252 to 175, with 35 Republicans voting for the legislation and 175 Republicans voting against it.

The House Homeland Security Committee announced a bipartisan agreement on the commission last week. Republican ranking member John Katko (R- NY) has defended the deal, even as House GOP leaders not only personally denounced it but encouraged members to vote against it.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell took to the Senate floor Wednesday to say he opposes the commission, calling it a “slanted and unbalanced proposal.”

In brief House floor remarks, Katko pushed back on the arguments being made by his Republican colleagues, including broadening the scope of the commission.
