George Santos Indicted on Additional Criminal Charges – Now 23 In Total

Fabulist Rep. George Santos (R-NY) was charged Tuesday in a superseding indictment with 23 criminal counts including conspiracy, wire fraud, aggravated identity theft, and credit card fraud.

The DOJ indictment reads, “Santos allegedly led multiple additional fraudulent criminal schemes, lying to the American public in the process.” Santos pleaded not guilty in May to the original 13 counts alleging “duped donors, stole from his campaign, and lied to Congress about being a millionaire, all while cheating to collect unemployment benefits he didn’t deserve,” noted the AP at the time.

Santos has grabbed headlines since entering Congress as the Republican was revealed to have lied about everything from his resume to his education to even his heritage. Amid calls to resign, Santos has remained defiant and been an acting member of the House Republican conference.

“The United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, is charging George Anthony Devolder Santos, better known as “George Santos,” the United States Representative for the Third District of New York, with one count of conspiracy to commit offenses against the United States, two counts of wire fraud, two counts of making materially false statements to the Federal Election Commission (FEC), two counts of falsifying records submitted to obstruct the FEC, two counts of aggravated identity theft, and one count of access device fraud, in addition to the seven counts of wire fraud, three counts of money laundering, one count of theft of public funds, and two counts of making materially false statements to the United States House of Representatives that were charged in the original indictment,” read the indictment.

Santos is next scheduled to be in court on October 27, but on Tuesday night participated in the candidates’ forum in Washington, DC as Republicans vote to nominate a new House speaker.

“As alleged, Santos is charged with stealing people’s identities and making charges on his own donors’ credit cards without their authorization, lying to the FEC and, by extension, the public about the financial state of his campaign. Santos falsely inflated the campaign’s reported receipts with non-existent loans and contributions that were either fabricated or stolen” stated the United States attorney prosecuting his case.

This is a developing story and has been updated.
