As Elon Musk threatens to sue Media Matters for their unflattering reporting on the social media platform once known as Twitter, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey (R) seemed to offer Musk help in following through with that.

Days after endorsing an anti-Semitic trope on X, Musk declared he would file “a thermonuclear lawsuit against Media Matters and ALL those who colluded in this fraudulent attack on our company.” The threat was in response to an article from the liberal media watchdog which stated that X has been placing corporate ads for major brands next to racist and pro-Nazi posters on the platform.

As X continues to hemorrhage advertisers, Musk claimed Media Matters used alternate accounts and selectively curated data from the platform in order to misrepresent user experiences and how advertising works on the platform. Media Matters president Angelo Carusone shrugged off Musk’s lawsuit threat in a statement.

Far from the free speech advocate he claims to be, Musk is a bully who threatens meritless lawsuits in an attempt to silence reporting that he even confirmed is accurate. Musk admitted the ads at issue ran alongside the pro-Nazi content we identified. If he does sue us, we will win.

In the middle of this pending legal showdown, X executive Joe Benarroch backed Musk up with a post about how Media Matters supposedly manipulated the data. Benarroch’s post got picked up by alt-right Pizzagate conspiracy theorist Jack Posobiec, and that got the attention of former Trump adviser Stephen Miller, who offered some advice about how to sue Media Matters for fraud.

“Fraud is both a civil and criminal violation,” said the former Trump White House senior adviser. “There are 2 dozen+ conservative state Attorneys General.”

Musk was clearly intrigued by Miller’s comment, and that’s when Bailey volunteered to lead the charge.

“My team is looking into this matter,” he said.
