‘That’s Not Bad!’ Fox’s Bret Baier Draws Big Laugh With Trump Impression At Journalism Forum
Fox News anchor Bret Baier drew laughs when he broke into an impromptu impression of President Donald Trump during a journalism forum.
NOTUS (News of the United States) — which bills itself as a nonpartisan nonprofit newsroom dedicated to “honest reporting” — held a journalism forum on Wednesday morning, hours after Trump delivered a 99-minute address to a joint session of Congress.
The program, entitled “Media and Democracy: Covering Trump 2.0,” consisted of a panel moderated by NOTUS White House reporter Jasmine Wright and consisting of Politico White House Bureau Chief Dasha Burns, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett, ABC News anchor Jonathan Karl, and MSNBC host Ali Vitali.
The headline attraction was a Q&A with Baier moderated by Josh Dawsey of The Wall Street Journal, during which Baier repeatedly mimicked Trump:
JOSH DAWSEY: What has surprised you most about his return and how this White House has worked versus what you expected?
BRET BAIER: Well, I mean, it’s a it’s a big question because I think, first of all, I thought the other panel was really great as far as laying out what it’s like covering this administration. It is like drinking from a fire hose. And it is, you know, seven shiny things in one day. And my biggest job during the day is to try to fit it all into 40 plus minutes of a news report at Special Report at 6 p.m..
I do think this iteration of Donald Trump is different. I think he is more comfortable in his skin.
…I think there is this confidence. I think you saw it last night internally.
You know, the word went out that Bill Clinton had the longest state of the Union and joint address at one hour, 28 minutes. And I think he was looking at the clock last night, I think he was (TRUMP VOICE) “I’m going to get 139!”
(LAUGHTER)
JOSH DAWSEY: That’s not bad! That’s not bad.
BRET BAIER: (TRUMP VOICE) Thank you Josh.
JOSH DAWSEY: I’m not going to do mine.
I don’t get to do it on the show that much.
…
BRET BAIER: Well, here’s how I plan is. First of all, you he sometimes repeats what he said on the trail a lot.
JOSH DAWSEY: Correct.
BRET BAIER: And so you know what’s coming. And so you murder board kind of you expect him to say this and then you get in on the breath. You know? When he and you maybe redirect.
He says, (TRUMP VOICE) “I like to do the weave. Sometimes I weave from topic to topic.”
JOSH DAWSEY: How do you redirect though? Because I’ve often found that to be the challenge.
BRET BAIER: It is the challenge. And I you know, I said, Mr. President, going back to the original, I think respect, being respectful in the question how you ask it is elicits a better answer.
