‘They Are Lying!’ Karoline Leavitt Says ‘The Entire Pentagon is Working Against’ Pete Hegseth in Shocking Fox News Hit
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt claimed the “entire Pentagon is working against” Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth — in a stunning defense of the embattled Hegseth Monday on Fox News.
In a fiery interview on Fox & Friends Monday, the chief spokesperson for President Donald Trump made clear the commander in chief is standing behind Hegseth — despite a scorching op-ed from a former Pentagon official alleging “total chaos” has broken out on Hegseth’s watch, as well as new reporting that Hegseth shared details of a sensitive attack against the Houthis in a Signal group chat with his family.
“The president stands strongly behind Secretary Hegseth, who is doing a phenomenal job leading the Pentagon,” Leavitt said.
From there, Leavitt made the jaw-dropping allegation that everyone at the Department of Defense is working to take down their leader, a veteran and former Fox & Friends Weekend co-host.
“This is what happens when the entire Pentagon is working against you and working against the monumental change that you are trying to implement,” Leavitt said. “Secretary Hegseth was nominated for this position because he is standing up for the war fighter — the men and women in uniform who are putting their lives on the line to protect our country and our homeland. And unfortunately, there have been people at that building who don’t like the change the secretary is trying to bring, so they are leaking and they are lying to the mainstream media.”
According to a New York Times report published late Sunday, Hegseth shared information about the attack on the Houthis with his wife Jennifer — a former Fox News producer — his brother Phil, and his attorney Tim Parlatore. The Times identified their sources on the story as “four people with knowledge” of the chat.
And in an op-ed published late Sunday by Politico, John Ullyot — who recently resigned as chief Pentagon spokesperson — ripped Hegseth for bringing “dysfunction” to the department. Ullyot also claimed there are “very likely more shoes to drop in short order, with even bigger bombshell stories coming this week, key Pentagon reporters have been telling sources privately.”
Leavitt trashed Ullyot and the New York Times sources — and claimed they are all full of it.
“They are lying about the Secretary of Defense!” Leavitt said. “Let me reiterate, no classified information was shared in these chats. But you do have leakers who are leaking classified information — which is a crime, I will add. And so the administration and the president have taken a very strong stance against anyone who leaks especially sensitive and classified information that can put our troops and our war fighters at risk.”
An X account run by the Department of Defense shared Leavitt’s claim, reiterating: “This is what happens when the ENTIRE Pentagon is working against you and against the MONUMENTAL change that you are trying to implement.”
