Trump Blames Zelensky for Russian Invasion of Ukraine: ‘Should Have Never Let That War Start’

Former President Donald Trump blamed Ukraine President Volodomyr Zelensky for the invasion of the Russian Military into his country, directed by Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“He should never have let that war start,” he said on the PDB Podcast, hosted by the very pro-Trump Patrick Bet-David, which was released Thursday morning.

Trump has long been criticized for promoting pro-Putin ideas and was recently alleged in an excerpt of Bob Woodward’s new book War to have taken “as many as seven” private phone calls with Putin after he left the presidency. Trump did not deny that allegation, though he claimed it would be “smart” if he did.

The roughly 90-minute interview with Bet-David covers a wide range of topics, including US foreign policy and Trump’s approach to Ukraine, Russia, Israel, and Iran.

Trump strongly suggested that he would end Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, even as president-elect and before taking the oath of office, but failed to offer any specifics of how he would get that done, apart from his boasting to having good relationships with both Putin and Zelensky (with whom he recently met in New York.)

“I think Zelensky is one of the greatest salesmen I’ve ever seen,” Trump said.  “Every time he comes in, we give him a hundred billion dollars. Who else has that kind of money? In history, there’s never been. That doesn’t mean I don’t want to help him because I feel very badly for those people,” he continued, “But he should never have let that war start — that war is a loser.”

“Ukraine, remember, is not Ukraine anymore,” he added. “Every city almost is knocked down to the ground.. all those beautiful golden domes are laying on their side smashed to smiterheens. There’s no City you go into the City and every building is demolished it looks like a demolition crew went through missiles have hit them. This should have been settled before it started. It could have. It would have been so easy. If we had a president with half a brain, it would have been easy to settle.”

He concluded by “largely blaming” President Joe Biden for Putin’s directing his military to invade Ukraine, because that’s where we are now.
